Is your restaurant tables layout working? There are a surprising number of restaurants that actually close their doors from Christmas Eve through to the beginning of January. These restaurant have obviously done the math and reached a conclusion that staying open costs more that shutting the doors for a few weeks. It is certainly understandable in areas that receive a lot of snow.
Shutting can be a perfect time for reviewing your performance over the past 12 months. It can also be a good time to review your restaurant furniture, particularly the layout of the tables. Are you maximizing space or have you maximized space too much? Can a new layout improve table numbers whilst making life much easier on your customers? These are some of the questions that need to be looked at in any review process.
Your restaurant tables layout needs to maximize space to the fullest while still ensuring there is plenty of elbow room for your diners. You also need to take into account your wait staff. Can they move around freely within your restaurant, or do they need to plot a route every time they need to visit a table? It is often a good idea to actually sit down and talk to your wait staff to get an understanding for any problems they are experiencing.
If you do close down for the Christmas period, don’t waste the opportunity. Review your restaurant tables layout, make any changes required and reopen your doors with a fresh new layout. Diners may thank you by returning more often if you have made their experience more comfortable.
