Combine the right furniture with an open restaurant tables layout and you can give your restaurant a real look of class. No matter how attractive the decor and furniture, if everything is crammed together your restaurant will look tacky. Diners want a semblance of privacy, even in a room full of other people.
Look at the photo - the restaurant tables layout is very generous. The walkway is wide enough to move a herd of cattle - perhaps not quite, but you can certainly see what I mean. In this restaurant, they have combined the rich finish of beechwood tables, matching chairs, and tasteful furnishings. The moment you step into a restaurant like this you feel drawn - there is a calmness, a sense of fine dining without any disturbance from fellow diners.
Now walk into one of the fast food chains. The tables are crowded close together, you have to carry your own food to the table and it’s a real navigational nightmare, especially with a full tray. Fast food restaurants incorporate a design that encourages quick eating and departure. I am surprised they don’t supply the antacids at the door as you leave.
The ambiance of the two restaurants are at opposite poles - one serene, calm and relaxed; the other helter skelter - get in, eat and get out again. Sure, it is not just the furniture that builds this ambiance, however, can you imagine your favorite fast food restaurant with furniture and a layout like that shown in the photo? It just wouldn’t look right.
By opening up your restaurant tables layout you are sending a message that says the diner is more important than the number of bottoms on seats. It also sends a message that says you’re welcome to stay and savor the cuisine. Of course, it really does depend on your restaurant - are you a fast food frenzy restaurant or a master in fine cuisine and a restaurant looking for the touch of class?
