Are you planning to cater for special functions over the Christmas - New Year period? Do you currently cater for special functions when requested? If you do, you have probably already drawn up alternatives for your restaurant tables layout. If you don’t have alternative layouts planned and you are intending to cater for special functions - now might be a good time to consider alternative layouts.
Special functions often require a more ‘inclusive’ style of dining. Banquet layouts are always popular and can make life easier on wait staff. You have several different options when it comes to banquet layouts. You can have one large ‘U’ shaped layout. This enables everyone to see everyone else - great for special groups, not so great if you are doing a general Christmas lunch.
An alternative to the large banquet layout is to have several smaller banquet arrangements. These can be in the form of straight lines, ‘L’ shapes or small ‘U’ shaped arrangements. I have seen layout that use 6-8 square tables to make a large rectangle. These can be quite popular since people from the same family or work group can sit together.
Christmas lunch is a little different to most special occasions. People want to be a part of a larger group - that is why they have a Christmas lunch in restaurant rather than at home. At the same time, they like their independence. This can be quite a challenge when it comes to organizing your restaurant tables layout. Can you re-arrange your layout so that people can feel inclusive with one another yet maintain their own counsel if they desire? You know your restaurant - can you organize it?
