Do Your Research Before Deciding On Your Restaurant Tables Layout

October 12th, 2009 · No Comments

There are a lot of factors that need to be considered before making a final decision on your restaurant tables layout. There are many variables such as cost, maintenance and life-span. One of the most important is cost since a simple change in your plans could lead to a major cost blow-out.

Most suppliers of restaurant furniture have a minimum quantity requirement. There are many reasons for this, the principal being that good discounts can be found for you if you buy in bulk. For example, a restaurant table top may sell for $50. Buy ten and the price could come down to $45. Buy 20 and you could be looking at $40. A twenty percent discount is not that uncommon when it comes to buying in bulk number.

Let’s extrapolate those numbers out. Ten tables that sit four to a table will require 40 chairs. You may find you can get a ten percent discount for that quantity. Twenty tables at four to a table will require 80 chairs. For the argument of this exercise, let’s say you get twenty percent discount on that quantity. At $50 per chair the discounts soon mount.

80 chairs at $50 = $4000 less 20% = $3200
20 tables at $50 = $1000 less 20% = $ 800

Total spend = $4000

Lets say you changed your mind and decided to include restaurant booths as well. You may decide to replace two tables with one booth at $500 for the completed arrangement. Now let’s look at the numbers.

72 chairs at $50 = $3600 less 10% = $3240
18 tables at $50 = $ 900 less 10% = $ 810
1 booth at $500 = $500 no discount = $500

Total spend = $4550

The end result is a total spend that is $550 more and two less seats (80 seats compared to 72 seats plus 6 seat booth). If you take away the booth cost of $500, you are still paying $50 more for two less tables and four less chairs. The reason of course is that by dropping below the 20 table and 80 chair bulk buy - your discount has been halved.

You need to research what discounts are available and for what quantities. Believe it or not, if you had stuck to your first spending plan - then added a booth, you would have received the lot for $4500 - a saving of $50 plus you would have had two spare tables and 8 spare chairs. By all means, change your restaurant tables layout to maximize profits. Just remember to research your costs so you can maximize your budget.

Note: the dollar amounts used are not representative of real costs and are used to provide an example only. You will need to do your own research using the prices quoted at the time you make any inquiries. Discount percentages are not actual and will vary depending on quantities purchased and the type of item purchased.
