What is your preference when dining out - round or square tables? Do you have a preference? You would be surprised how many people don’t really care - what is important is that the restaurant tables design is comfortable. In other words, it goes unnoticed.
It may sound strange, but in reality that is what is important - do your restaurant tables go unnoticed? Your diners should be able to sit down at their table, place their orders and basically enjoy the company of their party. Anything that intrudes on that enjoyment should be seen as an undesirable element in your restaurant.
We spoke in the past of undesirable elements. These could be sound, other diners, waiting staff, heat/cold, chairs and tables. It is the tables I want to focus on today. Round tables, square tables or even rectangle tables all have their uses.
Round tables tend to cater for the more informal type of restaurants. Rectangle restaurant tables cater more for banquet style dining whilst square tables seem to suit the more formal, and often intimate style of dining. Where does your restaurant fit into those scenarios?
There is no hard and fast rule of course and you may find that a rectangular or round table fits your formal restaurant quite well. It’s your assessment that counts and ultimately it will be the customer’s that determine if you are right or not.
When determining which restaurant tables design is right for you, remember that it is not the shape that matters. It is what is going to suit your restaurant to the point they go unnoticed - then you will know you have made the right decision.
