Restaurant Table Design: Will that Be One Base or Two?

January 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Most restaurant table design is fairly simple: if the base and table top are not attached when you buy them - a single piece - you’re going to need to buy a table top and a table base. But there are times when that’s just not going to be the case.

Will that be one base, or two, sir?

Most of the time, when you choose the tables for your restaurant you’re going to be looking for tables that will accommodate two or four guests (as well as one or three, for that matter). In other words, many of your tables are going to be less than 36″ wide. For some, this is the only size of restaurant table that they buy; they figure that if they have a party of six or eight, they’ll just push a couple of tables together.

That’s something that works in a pinch, sure, but think about that poor guy or gal who’s out to dinner and trying to keep a plate balanced between two tables - do you really think that makes for a happy customer who’s thinking about the food and anxious to come back another day?

When you consider that there are larger restaurant table tops available, it’s not hard to see why many make the choice to look into table tops that are 36″ or even 48″ long to make sure that larger parties will be comfortable: it just makes sense. However, making sure that they are safe as well as comfortable - sometimes that’s going to mean two bases for the table.

When you start taking a closer look at table bases, you’ll find that the question isn’t really difficult to answer: each base will tell you what size table it can accommodate; if yours is larger, make sure you buy two! And, of course, if you have questions, be sure to ask your Seating Expert.
