When looking at a restaurant tables design, most restaurant owners look at how well it will fit into their restaurant. That’s fine, but a table is there for a reason - to hold plates of food that diners will eat. Do you take into consideration that food when planning your table purchasing?
For most restaurants, it is probably not a problem 90% of the time. However, if you serve up 2″ thick steaks, is your table strong enough to cope with the constant pressure that diners apply cutting into those steaks? I am not making any reference to tough steaks either - even a tender steak takes a little carving.
What about sauces? If you are serving food like pasta that has rich sauces, many of these, particularly tomato based sauces, stain everything and anything. Timber tables with light wood stains will soon start to show stains from those sauces - no matter how hard you scrub. Other food issues that need consideration include heat, for example, from sizzling platters straight from the oven to the table.
It always pays to consider your menu when looking at a restaurant tables design. For sizzling hot platters, a surface that is heat resistant is ideal. For sauces that are likely to stain, either dark surfaces or table tops made from materials such as melamine should be considered.
Your restaurant would not exist if it were not for the food - that is why you are in business. It makes sense then to consider that food when planning on the type of furniture you are going to use. A restaurant tables design can be customized to suit you decor and your customers - don’t forget the food, it may need special considerations as well.
