When Restaurant Furniture Goes Unnoticed

June 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Restaurants are not just restaurants. They are there to serve a purpose and whilst food is often the main idea, it is not always the case. Knowing where you want your restaurant positioned is important when selecting your furniture.

If food is your centerpiece, then your restaurant furniture should almost go unnoticed. You want your patrons to leave thinking first and foremost about the food - how wonderful it made them feel, how tasty it was, and how it made the night. Furniture that is uncomfortable, or that stands out, can actually take away from the enjoyment of the food.

Other restaurants go for a more holistic approach. They want more than the experience of wonderful food for their customers. The restaurant furniture, the general decor and the dress and manner of the staff all go towards this holistic approach. These restaurants are often themed around the style of food served. Restaurant furniture in these situations has to work into that theme.

For the majority of restaurants, it is the food that patrons come in for. Sure, the general ambiance is important along with the restaurant’s furniture. However, it is like the old saying, ‘when is a chair not a chair, when you don’t notice you’re sitting on it’. Yes, the tables and chairs are functional, but that is it - they do the job. It is the restaurant food that sells the restaurant. Though the furniture you choose should be a fitting compliment.
