If your restaurant is popular then you have probably set up some form of reservation system. No matter how good your system is, there are always going to be problems, particularly if one or more groups of diners decide to linger a little longer. What do you do when the next party has arrived - do you leave them standing to clutter up the entrance - or do you provide restaurant furniture to make their wait a comfortable one?
The other problem that you will often encounter is that diners care little for time. Their table booking may be for 7:30, but they will arrive at 7:15 hoping to be early birds and get seated straight away. This is not always possible. A comfortable sofa, perhaps not as elegant as the Queen Anne in this picture, can certainly remove any complaints your early birds may have - after all, they are early.
There is nothing more infuriating than to try to leave (or enter) a restaurant when the entryway is crowded with those waiting for tables. If they let me out, they may be able to get to their table. We are a funny race, we humans. If we are waiting, do we step aside? No, we mingle straight up the middle. This is where seating such as a sofa comes in handy. Invite your waiting diners to take a seat until their table is ready and voila, the entrance way is clear.
Crowded entrances can be a real turnoff for patrons. You would be surprised how many potential customers you could be losing because they have walked away, before even entering your restaurant.
The more refined your restaurant is, the more your diners need looking after. Providing comfortable restaurant furniture is one area that should be looked at closely. Provide the right furniture and they will be happy - even the early birds - after all, they know they are early.
