Here’s a question - are fast food outlets still a type of restaurant? According to some of these outlets, if the patron dines in then yes they are a restaurant. According to government legislation, they most certainly are. In fact, there is a huge industry that caters for the restaurant furniture used in fast food outlets.
What then makes good fast food restaurant furniture? Now there is a tough question. Many fast food restaurants use a combination of booths and stand-alone tables and chairs. Others use fixed tables and chairs, or at least fixed tables with loose chairs. By fixed, I mean fixed to a wall or fixed to the floor.
The furniture in these restaurants have a few things in common. They are hard wearing and can cope with knocks and spills without a problem. Fast food restaurants deal with patrons as they come in, order their food on a tray, find their own table and before you know it, they are gone again - sometimes they even clean up after themselves. They often spill corrosive soft drinks, sugar, salt, various sauces whilst dining. If they have children with them, you would be surprised how many draw and scratch at the surface.
Hard plastics have become popular, especially for seating. They are easy to clean, take all the knocks and spills you can throw at them and ultimately are cheap to replace when required. Solid tables are often made from steel with various types of finishes.
The most practical furniture for fast food outlets is generally that designed for outdoor dining. There are a wide variety of patio chairs and patio tables available that would suit most fast food restaurants as they are hard wearing, easily cleaned and generally low maintenance.
Whether you’re a five-star classy restaurant or a humble neighborhood fast food restaurant, having the right restaurant furniture is important. The furniture has to suit the style of restaurant and the types of patrons you attract together with the type of treatment it will receive. Ultimately, you have to get it right to ensure you are not constantly spending your profits on renewing your restaurant furniture.
