This is one of the hardest questions any new restaurateur can ask - how do I find the right restaurant furniture for my new business? It is a tough question and not one that can be answered easily.
One of the most effective ways to find the right furniture for your restaurant is to undertake a sort of self interview. Here are some of the questions you can ask yourself along with some of the answers.
What is the style of my restaurant?
If your restaurant is a modern trendy style then look at furniture that fits that modern look. Clean lines, color, metal and plastics are the most common features of a modern restaurant. On the other hand, if your restaurant is catering to a maturer audience, then old style furniture in the form of dark timbers may be the go. Who are you trying to attract - young, old, families, business people? Once you have an idea of who you are targeting, you can look at the most appropriate furniture for that group.
What is the theme of my restaurant?
If your restaurant is based on a theme then you will need to look at furniture that blends into that theme. Sometimes the best approach is to use neutral furniture. Neutral furniture often goes unnoticed by diners since it is the walls, ceiling, floor, table coths and food that set the theme.
Do I hope to be busy? (I hope you say yes to this question)
If your restaurant is going to be busy then your only option is to buy commercial restaurant furniture. Don’t even think about domestic furniture - it is not made to withstand the rigors of commercial trade and you find that most warranties on domestic furniture are voided when used commercially.
Can I afford to buy in bulk?
If you buy a bulk lot, which includes your restaurant tables and chairs, you can generally take advantage of special deals, especially when it comes to shipping. Most commercial retailers have a minimum order quantity that has to be ordered.
If all else fails, talk to an expert in the field of commercial restaurant furniture. They are generally more than happy to discuss your needs and provide advice where necessary. Get your furniture right and your customers are going to be happy - happy enough to return again and again we hope.
