When designing your restaurant furniture layout there are a lot of factors that need to be taken into consideration. We often consider the customer and their levels of comfort. And so we should! After all, they are the ones who are paying the bills and without their patronage, the restaurant wouldn’t exist.
Having said that, you have also got to consider your staff. Can they serve your customers quickly and easily, or are you making life difficult for them? We often have high expectations of our staff. They need to be able to serve them quickly and efficiently, always with a smile and pleasant attitude. It can be a bit difficult if we expect them to carry a tray full of food and having to weave and slide around tables, chairs and other diners, without spilling a crumb.
The more complex your restaurant furniture layout is, the more frustrating life is going to become for your staff. By the end of their shift, their smiles are going to be forced and that friendly attitude replaced by, at best, a very controlled neutral attitude - at worst, well let’s not go there. In fact, let’s not create that situation.
Your restaurant furniture layout should provide a clear path from the kitchen or servery to all parts of the dining area. Your layout should provide a clear path for your customer from the door to their table and from their table to any amenities you provide. Create a layout that makes life difficult for your customers and they won’t return. Create a restaurant furniture layout that frustrates your staff, they may well ensure your customers don’t return. Plan well and everyone is happy - and you will be too.
