Trial Your Restaurant Furniture Layout Design

August 14th, 2009 · No Comments

One of the hardest parts of opening a new restaurant is getting your restaurant furniture layout design right. It can all look good on paper, however, when you transfer what is on paper into the real thing, there can be numerous problems that need fixing.

Some of these problems may involve rearranging your design. Others can be achieved by making changes to the restaurant itself. Some of the problems you may encounter include:

  • Tables that are too close to ventilation outlets
  • Chairs that are placed too close to those behind
  • Lighting that is too dark or too bright in one area
  • Tables that are too close to amenities or servery
  • Entrance and waiting area hidden from view
  • Sound system that is too loud in some areas and too quiet in others

Some things can be easy fixes. For areas where the light is too bright or too dim, it may simply require a change of light bulbs or light shades. Where the sound system is an issue, larger/smaller speakers or perhaps secondary speakers could be in order.

The alternative to those fixes is to move the restaurant tables to areas that are not being affected. However, when it comes to ventilation, the amenities and the servery, your only option will be to move the tables. You may be able to use screens around the servery and amenmites to block the view.

Generally speaking, the best solution is to trial your restaurant furniture layout design. Listen to the customers and find out what is making them uncomfortable. Your customers are going to be the best judges in determing what does and doesn’t work.
