Curious about the importance of comfortable restaurant furniture? Hear what this restaurant critic has to say:
Fine dining is one of the most essential ingredients to a well-lived life, in my opinion. As a restaurant critic, I thoroughly embrace my job. And who wouldn’t? It’s a pretty wonderful job, frankly! Trying a myriad of cuisines, sampling wonderful wines and beers, meeting new people. Sometimes I have a bad experience and as part of my job, I need to define in detail…what went wrong.
A few weeks ago, I went to an exquisite restaurant. The food was French nouveau cuisine. The tastes were sublime. The wine perfectly matched. Yet the whole evening, something didn’t feel quite right. What was it? Maybe I was just in a bad mood, I thought. No…it was something else. It was the seating! It’s something I often overlook though I shouldn’t because it’s imperative to a good, dining experience.
My seat was highly uncomfortable. It was stiff and unyielding and my “derrière” as the French would say, was aching by the end of the night. All this effort was put into the food but there was little effort put into the seating. How short-sighted and frustrating!
When I wrote my review, I felt compelled to mention it. Restaurant furniture really matters, especially in a case like this where the food was great. Maybe the owners will rethink their choices (if they thought it through in the first place, which I doubt.) Or maybe people will just wonder like I did…what went wrong?
