Smart restaurant owners know how to optimize their available space to gain the most bottoms on seats. This optimization process includes having a table layout that provides the maximum number of tables. However, interwoven in the design of your layout is your restaurant chairs layout. The two go hand-in-hand and are totally dependent on each other.
A good example would be where you have your tables arranged in such a way that every inch of the room is accounted for. However, if your chair then intrude into traffic areas, the end result may be chaos. Likewise, not leaving enough space between walls and tables can make it impossible for diners to sit comfortably at their tables.
There is an easy solution. In fact, it is so simplistic it is like child’s play. Do a scale drawing of your dining area. Also cut out a number of cardboard pieces that are the same scale as your drawing. The trick here is to NOT cut the cardboard pieces to the size of your table. Rather, cut these pieces to the size of your table with the chairs extended. Draw in your traffic areas then layout your cardboard pieces.
Yes, it’s child’s play - but it is very effective and a very quick way of determining how to maximize your available space, including your restaurant chairs layout. Is it childish? No way - the best interior designers and architects use that same principle when creating their designs. The hardest part is getting the scale right but if you can, you can solve hours of work in a matter minutes.
