Restaurant Chair Design: Saving Space at the Bar

April 14th, 2008 · No Comments

space saving bar stool When you start looking at restaurant chair design, one of the things that you’re going to want to be aware of is the amount of space that the chairs and barstools are going to take up.

As an example, let’s look specifically at bar stools and space at the bar. At your restaurant, your hope may be that you get a fair amount of bar traffic in addition to restaurant traffic - those people who come in and decide that they’d rather grab a drink at the bar than sit on a bench by the door waiting for a table to open up. When you start looking at the bar stool designs that are available, you’ll notice fairly quickly that the seats are different widths.

“But, really, how much of a difference can a few inches make?” It’s a question that a number of restaurant owners have when they’re looking into restaurant chair design and saving space at the bar. Let’s say that you have 12 feet of bar space. If you are looking at barstools with a width of 14″, you’ll be able to fit in about 10 barstools - provided you don’t leave much space between them; if you want everyone to have a few inches on each side, you won’t want to have more than 9 stools. On the other hand, if you choose a bar stool that is 17 inches in width, without much space you get 8, to give customers breathing room you won’t want more than 7 barstools.

When you carefully consider the width of the different bar stool designs that you look at for your restaurant, you’ll find that saving space is something that can be done based on the choices that you make.
