Restaurants that are “L” shaped are more common than many people realize. Using the narrow rectangular area for restaurant booth seating can make a lot of sense and, for a restaurant owner, may provide extra capacity. It also means you cater to different requirements. Those that prefer the open table seating are catered for in what is essentially a specialist open table area whilst those that prefer booth seating are also catered for.

One reason people like booths is because of the privacy they allow - or at least the feeling of privacy. With both walls lined with booths, the mistake is often made where each wall mirrors the other. This means that someone sitting in one booth is looking across at another booth. If you offset the booths then no booth is looking directly across at another booth. This maintains that feeling of privacy.

Restaurant booths are more popular in some areas than others. Being able to include booths in an area where they are popular can lead to an increase in business and subsequently and increase in profits. As a restaurant owner, you need to find the best restaurant booths layout for the available space. If you are mixing tables and booths, be sure to consider that privacy factor; if diners feel it is being compromised because of the proximity of other diners it may backfire on you and prove to be a negative rather than a positive.
