Restaurant Booth Layout: What Do You Need to Consider?

When it comes to restaurant booth layout, many people look at simply where they are going to place the booths.

For some, they make the choice to stick with classic booths and a classic restaurant booth layout - a row of booths along the side wall of the dinning room, with tables and chairs in the rest of the space. Others choose a cafeteria styled layout, using booths exclusively, including center rows. Others try to mix it up a little.

No matter how you choose to layout your restaurant booths, however, there are some things that you need to be sure that you’re taking into consideration:

  1. Aisle space. Customers and your waitstaff are all going to be using the aisles to get around the dining floor; make sure you leave enough space in the aisles to prevent traffic jams.
  2. Seating capacity. When it comes to laying out the dining room, you need to be sure that you aren’t short-changing yourself; likewise, you’ll want to make sure that you’re not going to make it impossible to serve everyone seated in the dining room. Focus on how many people you realistically can keep happy during any give amount of time.
  3. Party size. When people go out to eat, they don’t always go in tidy parties of four - often couples go out or groups of 5 or 6 or more. Booths typically seat four. Make sure that you can also accommodate smaller and larger parties.

Those three consideration points contribute greatly to restaurant booth layout - what other factors will you consider?
