Do TV Shows Influence Your Restaurant Booths Layout?

October 13th, 2009 · No Comments

There is little doubt that television has a big influence on our lives. That influence flows through to the type of food we eat and where we eat it. It’s little wonder then that your restaurant booths layout could also be influenced by television.

In the past, there were shows such as Happy Days - a cult show depicting the late 50’s and 60’s. Where did the teens hang out? In a diner. And where did they sit? At booths. Happy Days influenced our youth at the time and diners had a resurgence - diners with booths and the complete 60’s look.

These days we have TV shows such How I Met Your Mother. Booths are again often a part of their dining experience. Will that create another demand for restaurant booths? Probably not since this show doesn’t have the same sort of cult following. It may have a small influence when it comes to new restaurants opening. They may not have considered booths if they hadn’t seen it on a TV program.

It is interesting to look at some restaurants and wonder what has influenced their style, their selection of furniture and the way their layout has been designed. Booths seem to come and go as a fashion, with diners seeming to prefer them in older traditional style restaurants.

What would influence your restaurant layout? Would you include booths and, if so, would you stick to the walls only? Television does influence many of the things we do in our lives - sometimes it’s for the better, sometimes not. When it comes to a restaurant booths layout, it seems that television has played a big part over the years and will continue to do so in the future.
