Restaurant Booths Design - Does Height Matter?

July 28th, 2009 · No Comments

A restaurant booths design can come in a variety of heights and this can be an important consideration when shopping around to find the right design for your restaurant. Most people don’t even consider height until it comes to purchase time - then they are asked what height they want. There are many times when the initial answer is “oh, they come in different heights?”

The seat is a standard height but the booth’s backs can range in height. The standard available is 36″, 42″ and 48″. Height is not the only issue to consider. When looking at your layout, be aware that some booths come in various lengths with the norm being 30″ (single), 46″ or 48″ (standard length), and extended 60″ and 72″ also available.

The various sizes in length can be mixed and matched to accommodate the individual needs of your restaurant. Heights can also be varied if you are wanting to provide a certain effect. If you rely a lot on natural light then you may want to place higher backed booths closer to the windows with the shorter backed versions at the back of the restaurant. I wont go into the visual schematics, but those sitting at the back of the restaurant will still get natural light with graduated seating. The alternative, of course, is to use the lower backs throughout the restaurant.

Which height you choose is up to you and will depend on a number of issues. If you have high ceilings then the high backed restaurant booths will be more suited. Conversely, if you have low ceilings then a high back chair can make the ceiling feel much lower again.

Privacy is another issue with higher backed booths obviously providing better privacy. High backed chairs can give the booth a ‘nest’ feel about it which many people find comforting. Low backed booths are a little more social and can be well suited to catering for groups.

You will obviously pay a little extra for longer or higher restaurant booths, however, if they are attractive to customers then they will come back - the more satisfied customers you have, the more income you can generate - and that of course can often mean higher profits.
