Outdoor furniture is made to be used - outdoors. That’s fairly obvious. Even though your outdoor furniture is described as being weather resistant doesn’t mean it doesn’t need any protection at all. There are times when the sun can get mighty hot. Certainly hot enough to melt any of your patrons - never mind the furniture.
Most outdoor settings utilize either a large awning or marquee type cover, or they use individual covers such as umbrellas. Of course, if you are intent on using an umbrella, you will need to ensure you have the right furniture. Furniture with a central hole to hold the umbrella are fairly common. This includes separate table tops and bases.
As you can see in the picture, table bases can be quite ornate, even for outdoor furniture. This table base has the central holes to support an umbrella. It has that ornate cast iron look yet is made from durable aluminum with a powder coat. Match it with any one of the outdoor table tops and you have a perfect outdoor table ready for an umbrella.
Outdoor furniture needs a little protection from elements. More importantly, your patrons do. Umbrellas are the perfect solution providing coverage where you need it most. If you are looking for outdoor furniture, consider first what weather protection you intend offering. If it is via an umbrella then ensure your outdoor furniture is designed to take an umbrella.

I agree that the petrons do not appreciate hot seats, where there is the risk of perspiration as well as discomfort. I have one solution by providing my strung seats with polypropilene twine which resembles straw. This gives comfort as an all weather solution and it is appealing to the eye.
