Have you ever wondered who it is that sets the new trends in restaurant furniture? To be honest, I don’t think anyone actually knows. If that is the case then how do new trends develop? It’s the customers, perhaps the restaurant owners themselves; of course, the manufacturers have a vested interest and you cannot ignore the restaurant critics.
Like all fads, it is probably a combination of all of the above. Restaurant furniture designers start the ball rolling by creating their designs. Manufacturers take what they like and start to produce them and, with luck, restaurant owners also take a liking to the design and decide to use it in their restaurants. From that point on, it’s a lottery.
If the customers of that restaurant like the designs, they will come back. They will also talk about the furniture. Over time, other restaurant owners will notice the restaurant is doing well and that customers like the setup.
Those restaurant owners will do a little research, perhaps visit the restaurant themselves. If they associate the restaurant’s success with the furniture, they may decide to use it themselves. If not the same, then a very close version of it. Add to the mix a restaurant critic or feature writer who comments, either positively or negatively, and you have the start of a trend.
It’s unclear who sets new trends in restaurant furniture - it’s conceivable that you could be a restaurant owner that starts a new trend, simply because you like being different - or you like pushing the boundaries. The bottom line is, if your customers accept it then you have a winning design, does it matter if you are setting a new trend? It’s also nice being unique!
