Which New Trends In Restaurant Furniture Are Worth Following?

October 1st, 2009 · No Comments

Trends come and trends go and it’s pretty much the same when it comes to new trends in restaurant furniture. Because restaurants are so diverse in nature, furniture trends tend to be secondary. The reason for this is that when it comes to restaurants, the furniture style is dictated more by the trends in eating styles.

For many years Chinese was the popular trend. Since then we have seen the trends move through to Mexican, Thai and even Vietnamese. Steak houses were (and still are) very popular and so too the family styles of restaurant - and I am not talking about fast food, although that is another trend that should be included here. The point I am making is that furniture trends follow the eating styles.

For a family restaurant, the furniture style is obviously slanted towards families - this means children and the inclusion of baby chairs and booths. Steak houses led a trend in rustic solid furniture whilst some cuisines which required several platters led another trend towards larger tables.

So which new trends in restaurant furniture should you be following? Obviously, trends related to your restaurant style. However, regional issues do play a big part. New York may be trending to funky metal and bright colors - will that really suit your restaurant? More importantly, will it meet with favor with your patrons? The reverse is true, by the way - what works for you may not work in New York.

Following new trends in restaurant furniture is always going to be a tricky affair. Your best option generally is to find a style that meets the needs of your customers. If they are happy and they keep that cash register chiming, that’s all that matters. There is an old saying in life - if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. If your restaurant furniture is working for you then don’t try to copy new trends in restaurant furniture - it could actually be your undoing.
