Starting New Trends In Restaurant Furniture

October 22nd, 2009 · No Comments

Have you ever wondered who actually starts a new trend in restaurant furniture? Many times it is a little known restaurant that has dared to be a little different. Bigger restaurant tables (or smaller); backless dining chairs (or three legged, or five legged); perhaps eating on the floor (on, no, off). These are all little changes that affect diners.

If the diners are happy with the change, they will talk about. If the change leads to an increase in diners (in other words, an increase in turnover), then other restaurants soon hear of the change. If that change is appropriate, other restaurants will follow suit and - voila, you have a new trend in restaurant furniture.

For the original restaurant it is probably an unwanted form of viral marketing. They would much rather keep the change to themselves so that they could maintain some originality. Once the world starts to follow the new trend, they are no longer original. As I said, viral marketing when you don’t want it - in this case the original restaurant probably wouldn’t even get the credit for the change.

This then leads to the next issue - are you willing to be different? If you are like most restaurants, your answer would probably be - ‘we already are’. Most restaurants, whilst following trends to a degree, still like to maintain some originality. It is that originality that makes the difference - and it is that originality that could be picked up by others in the industry.

So, you are different to the restaurant down the road. How different are you? Is it a radical change that your patrons love? If so, be prepared. You may be starting a new trend in restaurant furniture.
