Sustainability is one of the mantras being sung all over the world and it has even filtered into restaurants and become one of the new trends in restaurant furniture. It’s not just being green, although that is where its foundations are, it is all about using resources that are renewable and sustainable. In restaurants there are many areas where ‘green’ has had its influence.
Many restaurants now incorporate dim or natural lighting. Where lights are used, they are low energy lights such as LEDs or low wattage light bulbs. Restaurant table coverings are in natural fibers such as cotton and wool. Where you are seeing changes in restaurant furniture is in the replacement of plastics. Instead, natural timbers are replacing plastics and to a lesser extent, metals.
Timber, of course, is one natural resource that can be replaced. The new trend in restaurant furniture when it comes to sustainability is to use fast growing timbers. These can tend to be softer woods since hard woods are slow growing. Table tops such as granite may well increase in popularity into the future.
Incorporating this sustainability approach to restaurant furniture is proving to be popular with customers as well. In some restaurants, they have cleverly involved sustainable timbers into their themes by using furniture that appears to have that rustic well used look. Others are going back in time and using restaurant furniture that comes from older periods. European furniture is popular for these styles. There is no doubt that promoting sustainability is one of the new trends in restaurant furniture.
