It is one of the oldest ideas in business - networking - yet you would be surprised how many people don’t bother to network with other like-minded individuals. If you are keen to know what the new trends in restaurant furniture are likely to be, or what is or isn’t working in restaurants, networking is by far the best way to go.

What’s the best way to network? You have several options. You can jump online and find forums or groups related to restaurants, you can attend local commerce groups, and/or you can attend shows and expos. The nation’s biggest restaurant show is the NRA Show. This year’s show was in early May - next year’s show will be held in late May 2010. The show takes place at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

Don’t expect to see much in the way of restaurant furniture at these shows. They are menu based and highlight the latest trends in menus - however, let’s face it, menu trends can influence new trends in restaurant furniture.

More importantly, these shows are great vehicles for networking, sharing ideas and perhaps striking up new acquaintances in the same niche as you. That is what networking is all about - sharing. Whether it is menus and food, food supplies and suppliers, or new trends in restaurant furniture, networking is one of the most important ways to spread ideas.

Do you network with other restaurateurs? Do you know what is and isn’t working in the next town, next county or next state? I guess the real question is whether or not you feel you need to know.
