Do Seasons Affect New Trends In Restaurant Furniture

December 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

Sometimes it can be hard to predict new trends in restaurant furniture. In fact, sometimes it can be difficult to distinguish between a new trend and what is really just a seasonal trend. There is no question that seasons can affect restaurant furniture trends - spring and summer can be particularly influential in creating new trends.

We are well into winter now. Outside dining is just a fond memory and with it salads, ice cream and ice cold drinks by the pool. Now we are rugged up, perhaps an open fire, and certainly enjoying hot roasts and soups. But what of the restaurant furniture? Tables can be covered with tablecloths to add some color and the appearance of warmth - chairs remain the same, often cold and uninviting.

This of course is not a trend but a seasonal change to accommodate the changes in weather. A trend would be to incorporate lambs wool covers on the restaurant seats, for example, or to introduce tables with hole large enough to hold a soup bowl. It becomes a trend if it takes off and every restaurant gives it a try. I know these examples sound outlandish, but you get the idea.

So then what effect do seasons have over new trends in restaurant furniture? There is not a lot you can do to restaurant furniture that makes any major change from one season to the next. Where seasons do have an influence is where they inspire a designer to take a particular design path. It may be color, or may be the raw materials used, or it could be the design in the fabric, or the ornate patterns on a chair back or table base. Do they become trends? They could. The reality is that new trends in restaurant furniture come and go according to the whims of restaurant owners, food critics and the customers.
