There seems to be a small background theme running in many our recent posts and I cannot help but wonder if this is one of new trends in restaurant furniture. I am talking about flexibility and how furniture can be put to many uses, or how the design of the furniture enables the restaurant owner to change the layout depending on the circumstances. Being flexible is one area that could prove to be a huge bonus to restaurant owners.
With Christmas almost upon us catering to special occasions is always going to be high on the agenda. Banquet dining is once again becoming popular as people rediscover restaurants for their special occasions. Weddings, engagements, 21st birthdays and end of season/end of year events are moving from halls and backyards to local restaurants.
Restaurants that are geared to quickly change their layouts to cater for these events are the restaurants that will, over time, become quite popular. If the restaurant owner is able to deliver a quality service (with good food), many of the guests will convert to regular diners. It is not a huge move as yet, but it is tangible and it is being mentioned in online food and dining articles.
Special events are just one aspect of flexibility. Outdoor dining is another that requires some flexibility. In the past, patrons would accept that the outdoor tables were full and that the only available tables were those inside. These days they will suggest that if the indoor tables are free, why not move them outside? If your restaurant furniture is designed for both indoor or outdoor use and you have the space, then moving furniture indoors or outdoors on demand could prove to be a positive customer relations move.
Many restaurants are moving to a point where they can change layouts depending on the needs of their patrons. This requires restaurant furniture that is versatile enough to handle these changes quickly and easily. Is it one of the new trends in restaurant furniture? I think for many restaurants it could be one move that may generate more in terms of dollars than it costs and well worth consideration.
