Are Fixed Bar Stools Still Effective Bar Furniture?

August 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

In years gone by the bar furniture centered on fixed bar stools - often a central pole with a wooden or padded seat that could be rotated. If you watch any of the old movies you will see them in either bar scenes or roadhouse cafeterias. Are they still effective in the modern bar?

The reason they used to be popular was because, as fixed stools, they couldn’t be used as weapons in brawls. Although we don’t have brawls these days, the fixed bar stool can still be a good idea in some bars. There can be a tendency for bar stools to wander and collect at various points of the bar.

Having fixed bar stools helps to prevent this from happening. However, in age when comfort has become important, being able to move your bar stool around is one of the comfort angles that needs to be catered for.

There is such a wide variety of bar stools around now, some with backs (high and low), seats that are round, square or even kidney shaped. Bar stools can still swivel although one of the trends these days is for bar stools that resemble dining room chair, only with longer legs. They have high backs, arm rests and padded seats.

Would you use bar stools that are fixed to the floor? The trend these days is for free standing bar stools as part of your restaurant furniture. They are convenient, easy to replace when necessary, and come in a wide range of comfortable shapes and sizes.
